If you are a UK taxpayer, please select the Gift Aid option as this enables the L&B Trust to receive 28 pence (25p from 5th April 2011) for every pound of your subscription or donation at no extra cost to you.

If you are unsure if you have done this previously, please do it now as it helps us to keep our records up to date. If this is your first Gift Aid declaration please read the Additional Information about Gift Aid section before selecting the Gift Aid option.

Members Benefits

Unlike some railway organisations, being a "Member" makes you a joint owner of the railway and gives you the right to attend and vote at the Company's Annual General Meeting. More importantly you will be playing an active part in this fantastic project by contributing towards the future and the rebirth of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway!

Trust Members also receive our award winning Magazine as well as frequent Newsletters to keep them updated with the latest happenings around the railway. 

In addition, access is permitted to the Members Only pages of this website where there is much more news and detail and behind the scenes stories.

Magazine - The Trust Magazine is published three times a year, and always contains articles on the history of the L&B as well as various items about the line and and its operation.  It is well Illustrated with rare historical photos and evocative drawings and paintings recapturing the atmosphere of the line as well as modern images and articles about current activites. & Newsletter

Newsletter - The Trust Newsletter is only available to Members and is published several times a year - it is also normally available to download online.

Volunteering - Members are encouraged to volunteers for a single morning/afternoon, a day, a week or for as many months or years as you like!  remember too that not all volunteering is done in North Devon - this website is administered by a volunteer from Kent!.  For more details about volunteering click here

Area Groups - Many Members of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust do not reside in Devon, but can be found all over the UK and indeed the rest of the World, where they  form local Area Groups to meet, socialise and further the aims of the L&B Trust. New Members are encouraged to join one of our area Groups. For contact details and further information about all our Area Groups click here


Annual Membership Period

The membership year commences 1st April.  Applications made between 21st September and 31st March will be valid for a full year from the following 1st April.


Additional information about Gift Aid

You must pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax in the United Kingdom at least equal to the tax the Trust reclaims on your donation in the relevant tax year. (This is currently 28 pence in the £)

1. You may cancel the declaration at any time by notifying the Trust.

2. If in the future your circumstances change and you no longer pay tax on your income or capital gains equal to the tax that the Trust reclaims, you must cancel your declaration

3. If you pay tax at the higher rate you can claim further relief on your Self-Assessment return

4. If you are unsure whether your donations qualify for Gift Aid tax relief, please ask.  Alternatively, ask at your local tax office, or refer to Help Sheet IR342 on the HMRC web site http://www.hmrc.gov.uk

5. Please notify the Trust should you change your address whilst this declaration is in force.

Trust/Company Information

The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust is a Registered Charity Number 1082564 and a Company Limited by Guarantee under the Companies Act 1985, Company Number 4040633.

Although Trust Membership is rarely refused, application for Membership of the Trust is subject to approval by the Trust Board. Once granted, it is then subject to the Memorandum and Articles of the Company.

In the unlikely event of the Trust being wound up, the maximum Legal liability of a member of the Trust cannot exceed £10.
