The handbrake column- this has been re-ended as the thread was not recoverable.

The brake pull rods ready for fitting

The bottom of the brake column- spacers have been fitted to clear the floor

The coupler with just the hook

One end of the headstock showing the connections for the air brakes and the steam heating pipe.

A vac cylinder with flexible connection to vac train pipe.

The headstock with vacuum brake pipe connection (other side to the air and steam heat pipes)

An air brake cylinder behind which you can see the two air brake pipes and also the steam heat pipe with a tee pointing up, to take  the branch to the heater.

Detail of the bogie centre area. The hex bolt head you can see above the orange painted pull rod holds a retaining pin which when removed allows the underframe to lift off of the bogies

The crank at the base of the handbrake column which translates the vertical pull to horizontal.

With Coach 17's underframe complete, work is scheduled to commence on Coach 7's underframe - with delivery anticipated in February.

There has been much discussion regarding a third or indeed a fourth heritage coach and this has of course already been the subject of discussions by both Company and Trust Boards.  What is clear is that coach 4 as built is not a suitable candidate having insufficient third class accommodation. Coach 11 - a seven compartment all third - is a more appropriate as indeed is Coach 16 - an all third brake - of which we have one or two relics.

However, before any work is undertaken on anything new, there is still a great deal of work required to complete these two coaches. Anyone up for lending the guys a hand at Great Yeldham please contact Essex Group Chairman Michael Dee or email enquiries@lynton-rail.co.uk.
