Martyn de Young

Name: Martyn de Young
Age: 47 From: Kent
Department: Local Support Group

I first discovered the joys of the L&B, almost by chance, in about 1988, and have been involved since then. Personal circumstances limit the time I can spend in Devon, but I have been able to help with several generations of the official L&B Web site, and I am Secretary of the Kent Support Group

Raymond Reed

Name: Raymond Reed
Age:
56 From: North Devon
Department:
Permanent Way

I have always had an interest in railways particularly in narrow gauge lines so on retirement I contacted Dave Tooke about volunteering on the L&B. He immediately invited me to join the Thursday track gang (The Geriatric Squad).

Steven Armitage

Name: Steven Armitage
Age:
14 From: Oxfordshire
Department:
Permanent Way

I was first interested in volunteering when I became a member because I like doing practical work. I have worked on many areas of the railway, but track laying was certainly the most fun.

Bernie Dobson

Name: Bernie Dobson
Age:
53 From: Sussex
Department:
Ops (Trainee Guard)

Railways have always been in my blood, as my late father was a signalman, but narrow gauge has been my favourite. Very early in my life I was captivated by the story of the L&B, and a return to Minehead in 1997 gave me the chance to follow the course of the line in a sort of pilgrimage.

Fred Scholes

Name: Fred Scholes
From: Barnstaple
Department:
Guard/Driver/Fireman

I have been a member of the L&B since about 1981 when I was at a display in Lynton and a certain Paul Gower began to tell me about the railway and in the end I joined to shut him up!

Graham Bendell

Name: Graham Bendell
Age:
54 From: North Dorset
Department:
Permanent Way

I have been a member, apart from a break in the mid - late 80s, for 25 years and participated in the first working parties at Cricket Field Lane, Parracombe in the early 80s.
