The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway is a historic narrow gauge railway. We welcome customers of all abilities.
Wheelchairs 30” wide or less can be accommodated on the train. Those with larger chairs should contact the railway in advance to discuss arrangements.
All our normal service trains have space for customers with mobility impairments, with at least two wheelchair spaces. A wheelchair ramp is available - just ask a member of our staff for assistance.
Although we can accommodate wheelchairs on our trains due to the narrowness of our carriages these cannot be turned.
We regret that due to space constraints, push chairs cannot be accommodated on trains, however they can be left at the station at the owners’ own risk.
We welcome well-behaved dogs and their owners on our trains. Dogs may travel FREE provided that their owners have purchased a ticket and other passengers do not object. We only ask that for reasons of hygiene dogs are not allowed in 1st Class compartments or on the seats in 3rd Class. Please consider making a donation if your dog enjoyed the ride too!
If you have any questions as to how we can help you further, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to help you to plan your visit. Telephone us on 01598 763487.
Facilities at our stations are as follows:
This is currently our main terminus station. We recommend that you start your journey from here. There is a level gravel car park from which there is level access to the platform.
Immediately beside the main platform, there are designated ‘Blue Badge Holder’ parking bays. These are always available during normal operating days. However, during our Spring and Autumn Galas, other arrangements have to be made. Please contact us if you have any concerns regarding disabled parking on the site.
Toilets are situated on the approach to the station and are accessed by a gentle ramp.
Baby changing facilities are also available within the toilet block.
The shop and booking office are accessed from the rear garden and from the main platform. There is a 10 cm (4") step from the main platform into the building. Please ask staff for assistance if you require help getting into the building.
The station is accessible only by a level footpath back to the lane. The platform surface and path has a gravel surface. The only station facility is a small waiting shelter on the platform.
Mobile Phone Coverage
On most of Exmoor phone signal strength is patchy, at Woody Bay it is best described as sporadic. However, most networks can get some coverage at Killington Lane.
No Smoking Policy
In line with national railways, the entire site is a no smoking area.
