We're launching the Carriage Shelter Appeal

28th February, 2025

As many of you will be aware we recently secured planning permission for a carriage shelter at Woody Bay. This 50-metre long structure, to be constructed on the headshunt siding, will keep four of our heritage coaches (our normal operational set) protected from the North Devon weather. Faced with 'Yorkshire Boarding' it will allow the sea breeze from the coast keep the carriages well ventilated whilst the full length roof will provide protection from the rain.

Through a generous member donation we have nearly a quarter (or one carriage worth) of the £60k we need to build the shelter.

However, time is pressing as we need to complete this essential project before next Winter. Therefore, we urgently need your help!

Today we're launching the Carriage Shelter Appeal so you can help us protect our unique carriages.

You can donate online, via BACS or via cheque and remember that if you declare that we can claim Gift Aid on your donation, we get another 25% from the HMRC! Any donation no matter how small or large will help protect one of the most unique heritage carriage fleets in the UK as well as helping reduce maintanece cost and time.

We've created a dedicated page espacially for this appeal with full details including links to the plans and episodes of 'Steam on the Moor' where we provide more information.

Please feel free to share the link widely and a genuine thank you from us at the L&BR if you do choose to donate.
