The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway held its annual Remembrance Day service for local schools at Woody Bay Station on Friday 10 November led by Rev Tim Woods. After the two minutes' silence the children planted wooden crosses in the Garden of Remembrance at the station and then went for a ride on the train before returning to school. A number of local adults attended too in the autumn sunshine. The engine, Axe, was built in 1915 for service on the Western Front in the First World War, delivering supplies to the troops on the front line and collecting the wounded, and was dedicated by the Bishop of Exeter in 2008 to all those who served on the railways on the Western Front.
