Clearance work on track bed boundaries between Killington Lane and Bridge 63 (Parracombe Lane) resulted in much brushwood and logs which required removal from the area before the landowner/farmer could use the fields bordering the trackbed for stock. Additionally, it was necessary to fence the Devon bank near the cattle creep to protect livestock.
Friday saw the first large pile of brushwood and timber consumed in a bonfire (aided by the wind). Saturday saw a further pile burnt (with assistance from the farmer and his telehandler) and a general tidy up around the area. Spot fencing repairs were also carried out.
On Friday, a team of volunteers carried out repairs to the platform surface at Killington Lane, which had suffered wear and tear from the passage of visitors over the years, and was becoming uneven in places.
Meanwhile, back at Woody Bay, restoration of the signal originally from King's Nympton was continuing in the capable hands of Keith Morton
Saturday evening saw a large number of the weekend volunteers at the Old Station Inn for a meal and social gathering.
Sunday saw the fencing around the Devon Bank completed, and the area tidied up before the rain set in. All in all a successful weekend with much achieved. Thank you to all that turned up.
Next working weekend is 15th - 17th March.
Dates for next winter are:
22nd - 24th November
24th - 26th January 2025
28th - 30th March 2025.
