Members gathered at the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway for a photo charter organized by the Surrey Group of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway on Saturday 23rd June.
In 1972 a group of individuals purchased a narrow gauge railway in Rookley, Isle of Wight and the friendship has lasted to this day. We all gathered at the Leighton Buzzard Narrow Gauge Railway for a photo charter organized by the Surrey Group of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.
With 32 attendees, the day was well patronised and we had a great deal of positive feedback. I gave a short speech to the assembled audience, which included members of the Thames Valley Group, our Chairman Peter Miles plus the Chair of the West Lancashire Light Railway Mike Spall.
Graham Morris and I gave a talk about the railway and former sand quarries and there was a false start from the terminus at Pages Park for photographic purposes. We then boarded the train and departed from Pages Park, travelling the full length of the Leighton Buzzard Railway to the end of the line where the loco ran around and returned to the storage depot at Stonehenge Works. Here Peter Pan came off the train and a diesel was placed on the passenger train, we set off up Mundays Hill with the diesel and Peter Pan pushed a representative skip train on a parallel track for a unique photo experience.
A detailed shed tour of the Stonehenge Works was organised, Peter Pan was coupled up to one of the old Rookley Hudson skips for a photograph of the members of the Island Narrow Gauge Railway Group, we then a returned to Pages Park for a detailed shed tour there. This completed a successful day with lots of very positive feedback and very generous donations for The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway were received from the happy group.
