Our Tuesday Gang volunteers, and our amazing staff team, have been doing various essential activities around the railway
Van 23 is an original Lynton and Barnstaple 8 Ton Bogie Goods Brake Van. Discovered in a field at Georgeham, near Braunton, in 1993, the wooden body was restored by the Bristol Area Group. It was delivered to Woody Bay in 2003, and spent some years on display in the loading dock. The van was later moved to our Essex workshop for further restoration work by our team of experts to get it to the condition required to run in our passenger trains.
The van needs a replacement steel underframe and a bogie overhaul. Construction of the underframe and work on the bogies is under way by our in-house engineering team in Devon. The completed running underframe will then move to Essex to be re-united with the restored body. We hope to see this fantastic vehicle back at Woody Bay soon.
The Tuesday gang have been working hard on the bogie overhaul.
Our trackwork and signalling equipment is constantly exposed to the elements and requires regular maintenance. All of the track receives a weekly inspection. Pointwork and signalling equipment needs to be carefully checked, oiled and greased to ensure its smooth and safe operation.
